The foundation the future is built on.
The world's imagery, point clouds, and 3D data are growing faster than the formats built to hold them. Bitruvius rebuilds that foundation from first principles — engineered for how modern silicon actually works.
Why We Exist
Most foundational software
was built for hardware that's gone.
Most formats that store the planet's imagery, LiDAR, point clouds, splats, and 3D models were designed decades ago, for single machines with slow disks and no notion of the cloud. Every year the datasets get larger and the old assumptions cost more — in storage, in bandwidth, in memory, in the time it takes to turn raw data into something usable.
We started Bitruvius to fix that at the layer everything else sits on. Our codecs and formats are cloud-native by design: massive datasets stay directly accessible from object storage, browsers, edge devices, and native applications — no conversion servers, no waiting, no lock-in. We build both lossless and error-bounded lossy paths, prove every claim with benchmarks, and keep the decoders open so the ecosystem can move with us.
One vendor. Every format. Wire-format compatible with the tools you already use.
What We're Building
One suite.
Every format that matters.
A single family of codecs and cloud-native formats spanning scientific rasters, optical imagery, 3D and point clouds, and general-purpose compression — each a drop-in for the legacy format it replaces, all from one vendor, and backed by SDKs that put them to work in any stack. And it's only the first layer.

What We Bring
Decades in the industry
this infrastructure serves.
Between us we've spent careers in geospatial, imagery, and remote sensing — shipping enterprise and government platforms, architecting solutions, SDKs, and big-data and AI/ML pipelines, and taking products from concept to global launch. Few teams have worked hands-on with as broad and diverse a range of 3D, imagery, and remote-sensing clients and use cases as we have. We're building the substrate we always wished existed.

The Team
Four people who've spent
their careers in this industry.
Not a first rodeo. Between us we've shipped the platforms, led the teams, and set the standards behind modern imagery and 3D geospatial — at Esri, Nearmap, and Space42. Now we're building the layer underneath all of it.
Geoff Taylor
Founder · Co-CEO & CTO
Geoff founded Bitruvius and co-leads it as Co-CEO while owning its technology as CTO. He works with the team to set the company's overall vision and direction, and owns the architecture and core engineering behind the suite.
He brings over 14 years at the leading edge of 3D, imagery, and remote sensing, spanning engineering, solutions architecture, product, and business development, supporting customers across every major industry vertical, including state and local government, federal, defense and intelligence, commercial, insurance, AEC, entertainment, and gaming.
At Nearmap he led solutions architecture, building and leading the team behind the SDKs, APIs, partner integrations, and petabyte-scale data pipelines that connected high-resolution imagery, AI/ML, and 3D data to customer and partner workflows, and repeatedly ran into the format and infrastructure limits that Bitruvius now exists to solve. He later served as VP of Solutions Architecture at PropertyFi, an AI startup, where he built the data and AI infrastructure behind its platform, before founding the company.
Before that, he spent nearly a decade at Esri as a solutions engineer for 3D, imagery, remote sensing, and GeoDesign technologies, supporting all industry verticals and global business development, and pioneering early 3D geospatial and procedural-modeling technologies, solutions, and workflows.
How We Work
Engineering principles,
not corporate values posters.
Measure, Don't Guess
Every design decision is backed by benchmarks. We profile before optimizing, test against real data, and let the numbers settle debates.
Correctness Is Non-Negotiable
In lossless mode, every decoded value matches the original exactly. In lossy mode, error bounds are guaranteed. There is no "close enough" without a contract.
Open Where It Counts
Decoders stay free and available so the ecosystem can adopt our formats without friction. The value is in the encoder — and in getting the hard problems right.
Small Team, High Trust
No layers of management, no approval chains. We own our work from design through benchmarking and ship when it's right.
The Bigger Picture
Codecs are where we start.
Not where we stop.
Everything we build is designed to be a foundation — the substrate beneath a much larger stack for how the world stores, moves, and builds on spatial and 3D data. The formats are the groundwork. What sits on top of them is the point.
That means meeting developers wherever they build — in the browser, inside the engines that render 3D, in the notebook, and at the edge — and steadily collapsing a fragmented landscape of incompatible formats into a single, coherent standard. A growing family of tools and technologies, all resting on the same efficient core.
Bitruvius is the foundation. There's more being built on it than we're ready to name yet.
Let's build
what comes next.
